Hey Guys!
So what does everyone drink? Full-creme, skinny, goat's milk?
I was just wondering because I very recently became a vegitarian (the one that eats chicken, fish and eggs but doesn't eat red meat) Anyways, I was at the health foods store stocking up on loads of yummy vegan treats and I spotted some soy milk. I stood in front of the fridge contimplating if I wanted to try it. When I was little I used to drink soy all the time, and then stopped. And when ever I go to Starbucks I get my regular vanilla soy latte. But other than that I stick to my skinny, trim, whatever you wanna call it. So I decided to pick up the carton and read the stuff on it. High in protein, chelestorol (or how ever you spell it) free, low fat, low sodium, dada da da da, bam! And then it hit me! Iron-rich! An essential for people refusing to eat red meat.
So. I told that long story just to say to you guys. if you dont want to eat red meat. make sure you're drinking up the soy. lol.

hehehe and eating them beans and i love tofu!
1not to sound catty, but as a vegan who eats no animal products, it really irks me when someone who eats animal flesh calls herself a vegetarian. vegetarians do not eat any meat, poultry, or fish. pescatarians don't eat meat or poultry, but still eat fish. if you are still eating chicken AND fish, you are simply an omnivore. by calling yourself a vegetarian, you are only serving to muddy up the term and take away from its true meaning.
ANYWAY. its still great that you decided to eliminate red meat from your diet, and hopefully if you're interested in vegetarianism, you will continue to eliminate animal products from your diet in the future.
i drink soymilk and sometimes almond milk. both are good and have different flavors, and both have entirely different flavors from milk, i think. if you are interested in trying out more milk alternatives, almond milk is pretty easy to find, or you could make your own by soaking 1c of raw almonds overnight, draining them, and blending the almonds with 4c of water. strain the mixture once or twice, and return to the blender, adding a little bit of maple syrup to sweeten it up, if you'd like. nothing compares to fresh almond milk, its very creamy tasting while still managing to be light and clean.
as far as getting iron, if you are still eating eggs, i believe they have a good amount of iron. regarding plant sources of iron, you can find plenty in leafy greens, dried fruits, and beans, and seeds.
2i have been drinking soy milf for a while now and i love it
3I have been a vegetarian for as long as I've been able to choose my own foods. I was a vegan for a few years but when I was living on my own it was reallllllly hard for me to afford that lifestyle. Vegetarian or vegan, I never ever was a milk drinker. I think cows milk is actually really bad for you - ESPECIALLY the horrible misconception that milk is a good source for bone-strengthening calcium. The animal protein in milk basically completely negates positive effects of the calcium in it since animal protein leads to higher rates of bone loss! (Here is a really really informative page with everything you could ever want to know about milk - http://www.notmilk.com/ If you click on the calcium link it will explain more about why milk is definitely not good for bones.) But soy milk is an awesome alternative. It tastes better and it's actually good for you.
4I'm noticing that this is an old thread but I hope the info on that website can still help.
